Hokkaido
The northernmost of Japan’s four main islands, Hokkaido is known worldwide for its volcanoes, natural hot springs, and ski resorts.
Shikotsu-Toya National Park, the setting for this trip, is a popular tourist area in Hokkaido, with its caldera lakes, geothermal hot springs, and Mount Yotei, which resembles Mount Fuji.
The indigenous people of Hokkaido are known as the Ainu, and many place names in Hokkaido are derived from the Ainu language. -
Niseko
The Niseko region consists of the towns of Kutchan and Niseko, and internationally famous resorts can be found in the Hirafu, Hanazono, Higashiyama, and Annupuri districts.
Niseko is a year-round tourist region, and in summer, visitors can enjoy outdoor sports such as hiking, trekking, cycling, canoeing and rafting, golf, horseback riding, fishing, ballooning, Pure, and dog runs. Spring water (23 mg/liter ultra soft water) flows from around Mount Yotei at regular intervals, providing cyclists with a handy way of refilling their water bottles during their journey. -
Kitashiribeshi - Otaru, Yoichi, Niki, Akaigawa
The Kitashiribeshi region includes Otaru City, famous for its canals and seafood; the towns of Yoichi and Niki, which are home to vineyards and whiskey distilleries; and Akaigawa village, home to Kiroro Resort, where tourists can enjoy powder snow during the winter. Seafood, mountain delicacies, fruits, and alcohol can be found in abundance, and combined with its scenic landscapes, Kitashiribeshi is a region full of charms that will keep visitors coming back.
You can cycle all the way from the hills of Niki down to the ocean bordering Yoichi, passing through Fruits Road and mystic torii gates of Japanese shrines along the way. -
Lake Toya
Located in southwestern Hokkaido, Lake Toya was formed within the Toya Caldera.
It is the ninth largest lake in Japan by area, and the third largest caldera lake in Japan after Lake Kussharo and Lake Shikotsu.
The four islands in the center of the lake are collectively known as “Nakajima”, and are a collection of lava domes and pyroclastic dunes formed by volcanic eruptions about 50,000 years ago.
Including those on the bottom of the lake, a total of 11 volcanic landforms have been identified in the region.
Mount Usu was formed about 20,000 years ago by repeated eruptions on the southern shore of Lake Toya.
Tourists can enjoy activities such as canoeing, SUP, and jet skiing on the lake.
As the colors of the surface of Lake Toya varies by location, cycling along its shoreline is sure to be a mystical experience.

This is a next-generation cycling tour that aims to be as carbon neutral and environmentally friendly as possible. It is designed to protect the environment and nurture local tourism by carbon offsetting the CO2 emitted during the tour, in the form of donating forest carbon credits to the municipalities along the cycle route.
Offsetting your carbon emissions is optional, but we hope you will join us in protecting the environment.
